We didn’t mean to build a company. We just wanted to build one good desk.
It started in a small workshop. A few leftover oak planks. No budget. No big investors. Just the stubborn belief that furniture could — and should — feel personal.
Kristers had just finished university. He was 22. Living with a dream, not a paycheck. And like many, he found himself working long hours at home… at a kitchen table that didn’t care how his back felt.
So he made something better.
Six months. That’s how long it took to shape the first OAKO desk. Not because it was complicated — but because it had to be right. Every curve, every corner, every cut of oak was reconsidered. Over and over again.
We tried to sell in Denmark first. Nothing happened.
Then one day, we opened the website to all of Europe — and within hours, our first customer hit “Buy.”
The timing was eerie. The world was changing. Remote work was becoming normal. And people weren’t just buying desks — they were investing in comfort, in design, in themselves.
From that moment, everything grew fast.
We stayed still obsessed over the smell of oiled oak. Still remember how we ran to the workshop when a new order came in. Still remembered every name of every early customer.
And now? Every OAKO desk still begins the same way: with patience, passion, and a piece of wood that’s been waiting its whole life to become something beautiful.
We don’t rush quality.
We don’t build trends.
We build desks for those who believe their workspace should reflect who they are.
